A thoughtful, experienced approach to accessible and sustainable design.
With more than 20 years’ experience across architecture and access consulting, Evelyn Keng brings a depth of technical expertise and a globally informed design perspective to her work at Architecture & Access. As a registered architect and senior access consultant and one of the organisation’s Access Leaders, Evelyn’s career spans Australia, Singapore and Taiwan — experience that continues to shape her thoughtful, problem-solving approach to creating inclusive built environments.
A Strong Foundation in Architecture and Accessibility
Evelyn’s background in architecture is central to her work as an access consultant. Her early career focused on large-scale documentation and delivery, equipping her with a strong understanding of how design intent is translated into built outcomes. This technical grounding, combined with her qualifications allows Evelyn to bridge the gap between compliance requirements and practical design solutions. Her qualifications are:
- Bachelor of Architecture
- Bachelor of Environmental Design
- Registered Architect (VIC & NSW)
- Diploma of Access Consulting
- Livable Housing Design Standard (LHDS) Assessor
- Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) Assessor
She works with clients and design teams to navigate accessibility requirements, ensuring that projects not only meet regulatory standards, but also deliver meaningful, user-centred outcomes.
Experience Across Diverse and Complex Projects
Evelyn has contributed to a wide range of projects spanning education, health, transport, government infrastructure and residential developments. Her portfolio includes:
- Major health and research facilities, including the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre and the Epworth Jreissati Pancreatic Centre
- Transport and infrastructure projects, such as Suburban Rail Loop and Melbourne Airport works
- Education facilities, including projects for RMIT, Deakin University and the University of Melbourne
- Civic and community developments, including pavilions, recreation facilities and council-led infrastructure upgrades
- Residential and social housing projects, including multiple Homes Victoria developments under the Big Housing Build
Leadership, and Team Development
In addition to her project work, Evelyn plays an important leadership role as one of three Access Leaders within the Access team. In this role, she leads and supports her “home pod,” fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing and strong team performance.
Evelyn works closely with other Leaders and Access Managers to coordinate workloads, optimise project delivery and help achieve business targets. She is actively involved in mentoring team members, supporting professional development, and ensuring her pod has the resources and guidance needed to succeed.
This leadership responsibility reflects Evelyn’s supportive mindset and her commitment to strengthening both people and project outcomes across the organisation.
Driving Innovation Through Technology and Process
Evelyn is a highly experienced Revit user and has previously stepped into BIM leadership roles, bringing valuable technical capability to project teams. Her strong interest in the design process is matched by a commitment to continuous learning — always seeking new ways to improve outcomes through both technology and design thinking.
A Commitment to Sustainable and Inclusive Design
At the heart of Evelyn’s work is a belief that architecture must respond to both people and the environment. She is deeply committed to creating built environments that are accessible, sustainable and thoughtfully integrated with their surroundings.
Her approach reflects a broader design philosophy: that good design begins with understanding real needs. Evelyn applies this thinking to every project — ensuring accessibility is considered from the outset, not as an afterthought.
Beyond the Workplace
Outside of work, Evelyn’s curiosity and creativity continue to shine. Before pursuing architecture, she once dreamed of becoming an explorer — a spirit that still comes through in her love of sailing and diving. When it’s time to unwind, she enjoys building intricate nano blocks or relaxing with a good film.
Delivering Confidence Through Experience
Since joining Architecture & Access, Evelyn has made a significant contribution to the Melbourne team, bringing a calm, diligent and highly capable presence to every project. Her combination of international experience, technical skill and genuine passion for inclusive design ensures clients can feel confident that their projects are in expert hands.
