Engaged by Brisbane City Council, Architecture & Access has participated in this four-year co-design project, creating one of the most accessible mass transit systems in Australia.
This month we are proud to celebrate the introduction of the Brisbane Metro vehicles into service on the 169 route between Eight Mile Plains and University Queensland Lakes Stations in Brisbane.
This project began over four years ago with the formation of the Brisbane Metro Accessibility Working Group (BMARG) to assist with delivering a vehicle that better reflects the diverse needs of our community. This involved a rigorous and robust co-design process with monthly workshops, functional testing of a mock-up vehicle, research into suitable types of safety elements to minimise wheelchair lateral tilt, testing of route maps and announcements and ramp deployment, to final mark-up of the vehicle on the platform into operation.
And finally, as part of the customer readiness journey planning for this new state of the art vehicle, the development of fact sheets and a vehicle video, highlighting the accessible features of the vehicle to inform the public, is now available.
This 5-minute video – Metro vehicle accessibility features will be hosted on Brisbane City Council and TransLink websites for public transport journey planning.
