Resolving accessibility and compliance challenges.
Written by: Grace Nguyen, Access Consultant
We had a great opportunity to provide access consulting services for the Victoria University Brimbank – Tech School, alongside Spowers Architects, supporting the project from schematic design and design development through to construction and final building occupancy sign-off.
Located within the Sunshine campus, the project involved the construction of a cutting-edge high-tech learning facility designed to foster innovation, discovery, and technology-focused education. The new centre provides secondary school students (Years 7-12) with access to hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences and has the capacity to accommodate up to 120 students per day across 14 partner schools.
The facility features a range of specialist learning environments, including:
- E-Sports and Cyber Centre
- Open-plan forum space
- Design Studio incorporating 3-D printing technology
- Flexible multi-purpose learning spaces
- Offices and meeting rooms
- Open-air central courtyard providing a technology-free zone for connection and wellbeing
- Landscaped external areas that integrate the new facility with the broader campus environment

Working closely with the project architects and the building surveyor, we provided accessibility advice throughout the design and construction stages. This collaborative approach supported the project team in achieving ambitious delivery timeframes while maintaining a strong commitment to accessibility, compliance and inclusive design outcomes.
Throughout the project, we assisted in resolving accessibility and compliance challenges, including the development of Performance Solutions where required. By working collaboratively, we helped facilitate innovative design outcomes that varied from the NCC/BCA requirements while continuing to achieve optimal, inclusive & accessible outcomes for all users.
Completed in time for the commencement of Term 3 of 2026, the new facility now serves as a significant educational, community and industry hub. It creates valuable pathways between local secondary students and future STEM careers, supporting both the Victorian Curriculum and evolving industry needs.
