Championing accessibility in a landmark $54.5M facility, in the heart of Fitzroy.

Architecture & Access is proud to have provided access consulting services for the newly completed Bundha Sports Centre—an innovative, multi-level facility forming a key part of the broader Fitzroy Gasworks precinct masterplan. Commissioned by Development Victoria with a project budget of $54.5 million, the Centre represents a major investment in community sport and inclusive design.
Strategically co-located with the Wurun Senior Campus, the Centre supports a shared-use model that allows the venue to operate as a seven-court facility outside of school hours, maximising community access and use. Architecture & Access played a critical role in ensuring the facility meets contemporary accessibility standards and supports inclusive participation for all users.
Visitors to the Centre are welcomed by a vibrant reception area, lounge, and café, with a versatile community room positioned nearby for various local uses.
The ground level features a multi-purpose futsal court, while the upper floors accommodate flexible-use courts designed for basketball, netball, volleyball, and badminton.
A 24-hour gym, complete with consultant rooms and its own dedicated sanitary facilities, occupies the first level. Communal outdoor spaces are also included, with landscaped areas at both ground level and the rooftop.
In line with the project’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion, the design features a range of inclusive sanitary and change facilities that support access needs, families, and all gender identities.
Architecture & Access was engaged early in the process by Co-op Studio, providing access consulting services from the Schematic Design phase in 2022 through to Building Approval in mid-2023.
Our early involvement ensured that accessibility was embedded throughout the design development process, helping to deliver a facility that is welcoming and inclusive for all.
