Rupanyup Aged Care

A thoughtfully designed expansion focused on resident wellbeing.

Written by Nicole Gavina, Access Consultant

Stage One of the Rupanyup Nursing Home Redevelopment in Rupanyup, Victoria, has reached practical completion, representing a significant investment by West Wimmera Health Service to enhance aged care services for the local community.

Engaged by the project architects Evidence Based Design in 2024, Architecture & Access provided access consulting services from design development through to contract documentation. Our role focused on supporting the delivery of a practical, resident-centred environment through considered and effective accessibility outcomes.

A new seven-bedroom residential aged care wing has been added to the existing Rupanyup facility, including private rooms with ensuites and hoists, upgraded communal living and dining areas, accessible sanitary facilities, new outdoor terraces and courtyards, and improved external pathways.

A key aspect of the project was the development of a Performance Solution for the resident ensuites. In collaboration with the project team, we supported an outcome that balances accessibility, resident independence, and the operational requirements of aged care delivery. The solution introduces adaptable bathroom arrangements that improve flexibility for care staff while enabling residents to remain in familiar surroundings as their needs evolve, supporting the broader objective of ageing in place with dignity.

Overall, the redevelopment delivers improved accommodation, enhanced communal facilities, and increased opportunities for social interaction and outdoor engagement. Architecture & Access is pleased to have supported West Wimmera Health Service and the project team in delivering a facility where accessibility and resident wellbeing remain central to the design outcome.
