La Trobe University’s $20M transformation delivers inclusive spaces with accessibility at its core.

The La Trobe University – Shepparton Campus Reimagined Project has officially been completed, marking a significant milestone for the University and the region. With a budget of nearly $20 million, the redevelopment has transformed the campus into a contemporary and inclusive hub designed to enhance the student experience and increase opportunities for people in Shepparton and surrounding areas to access a wider range of courses.
The project delivered a new two-storey building together with refurbishments to the existing campus. The redevelopment introduced a variety of spaces designed to support learning, collaboration, cultural engagement, and community activities. Key outcomes include improved entry points, enhanced circulation, expanded teaching and study areas, new and upgraded staff workspaces, and accessible amenities. These improvements provide a flexible and future-ready environment that supports both academic growth and community use.
Architecture & Access was engaged by Spowers to provide access consulting services for the project, with involvement commencing in August 2022. Joining at a later stage of the design process, the team contributed their expertise to help ensure that accessibility and universal inclusion were considered throughout the development. Their role supported the delivery of spaces that are not only functional and compliant but also welcoming and inclusive for students, staff, and visitors of all abilities.
The Shepparton Campus Reimagined opened earlier this year and now stands as a landmark investment in education. More than just a physical upgrade, the project reflects La Trobe University’s vision of a sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready campus. A central part of this vision was ensuring the campus is accessible for all, with spaces designed to support participation by students, staff, and community members of all abilities. Architecture & Access is proud to have contributed to the delivery of this project, helping to embed accessibility as a key feature of the campus’ future.
