Recognising a Leader in Neuro-Inclusive Design.
Architecture & Access is thrilled to announce that Ilianna Ginnis, our Neuro-Inclusive Design & Access Consultant, has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Australian Design Review 30 Under 30 program. This award and program aim to inspire the 30/30 cohort and advance their knowledge. Congratulations Ilianna!
Ilianna is one of 30 design professionals chosen to participate in this mentor program. The Australian Design Review describes the cohort as, “the future: the creatives, thinkers and doers who will shape our world.” Anyone who knows Ilianna will agree that she truly belongs in this esteemed group.
Ilianna is not only a Neuro-Inclusive Design & Access consultant at Architecture Access, but also an Interior Architectural Designer, Ph.D. Candidate, and a Research Officer within the Design Health Collab at Monash University. She is passionate about engagement, participation and the response to architecture and interiors, particularly through a neurodiversity lens.
Through her PhD research, Ilianna has developed the “Me in Mind” design principles for including people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities who are non-verbal communicators in co-design processes and architectural outcomes.
As Ilianna says, “Just because someone can’t speak, doesn’t mean they have nothing to say.”
She designs and consults on multi-sensory environments that consider the diverse needs of neurodiverse individuals and people with disabilities.
Ilianna’s personal experience has allowed her to work one-on-one with non-verbal communicators, developing co-design processes and approaches that challenge traditional design methodologies to consider complex and diverse communication, cognition and ability.
The 30 Under 30 cohort is a multi-faceted group from across Australia, united by their dedication to design. The mentor program focuses on personal and professional growth and supports young designers to achieve their potential and helps to make a significant impact in their field.
Congratulations once again to Ilianna Ginnis for this remarkable achievement! We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing the impact she will continue to make in the field of design.
